Read, Help Yourself

I sat here tonight alone in my house reading a book about Buffalo (Buffalo for the broken heart, by Dan O'Brien) the story itself bringing tears to my eyes, in this book a broken hearted man takes on 13 motherless baby buffalo on a run down, moneyless ranch. The story told in such good form, that I sit and just ponder quietly in my head. Life in another persons shoes, how incredibly lucky we are to have people willing and brave to write their stories, and how amazing that I am able to read it.

Reading has saved my life many times over, I am not alone in this world when I am in a book, I am able to listen to the voices of others, and see the world in ways I would never know without the writer giving me their vision. One of my favorite sayings of all time "Every time a man dies a library burns to the ground (African Proverb)." A feeling of appreciation sits in my heart, as I am able to know the power of a good book, and enjoy the company of the many writers willing to put their hearts and minds to words.

Thank you to all the writers out there, may we all learn that reading is a source of healing.
