Keep Writing

Anais Nin said, "The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say." To write the inner expressions and put our thoughts to form, creating a way to remember the thought over and over again by simply reading it is a wonder.

Reading what others are writing is one of the most brilliant ways to connect, understand, and become.

Recently I was struck with a piece of writing that was so incredibly good, that I felt a sudden disappointment with my own work. I thought to myself, with so many amazing writers out there, why do I continue to write? I sat in that mind frame for a short time, and then stopped myself, I write because I love it, and the only way to get better is by doing it. Yes, I am an amateur, I think therefore I write, and the beauty behind it all is that I can either die with the thoughts inside me, or write them down and keep them to be remembered. One of my favorite African proverbs is "When an old man dies, a library burns to the ground." We each have within us a library waiting to be read. And so, I will keep writing and the reader can choose for themselves to read, or not to read.
