3 Things to DO in Mental Crisis

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

  1. Always be prepared before it happens.

Many of us can't believe that a mental crisis would ever happen to us, until it does. The mind is a powerful engine and given a certain set of circumstances at a given time together can cause a state of irrational thinking, anxiety, mood swing and mental exertion. It is a sign of strength to be prepared for anything. Setting yourself up for success before crisis hits will allow you the confidence to walk carefully in the moment and come out stronger and more aware of yourself when you overcome.

2. Make a plan.

Seriously make a plan, take mental or physical notes, know where there is a safe place for you to go, know who you will reach out to at the moment of need( spouse, partner, family, friend, therapist, professional medical personnel, spiritual counselor, crisis hotline, ect) think about the practical needs that might help the discomfort ( medications, meditations, techniques, soothing beverage, good food, comfortable clothing).

In the moment of crisis you might not be yourself and have all the faculties you normally possess, but processing through a good plan will help you remain in control and safe.

3. Do what you planned.

If you find yourself experiencing thoughts of harm to self or others, irrationality, strong irritability, panic, uncontrollable emotions, or a situation you are not familiar with that causes you to feel unable to coop (crisis). Follow through with your plan, slight variations could occur based off the circumstances, have a few options.

You might not know that your going to be okay as you process through, those thoughts are normal, being in a safe place with everything you might need for the time it takes to get a plan together for your mental strength.

Thank you for reading, we are in this life together, one day at a time. I appreciate all your thoughts and comments.
